Miss University of Zambia (UNZA) 2007 was an entertainment with a difference. Young people came from different parts of the capital Lusaka to witness the crowning of the new queen. Held on December 7, 2007, the event was altogether different from those held in the past....the organizing committee decided to give it a challenging theme: 'Stand Up and Speak Out against Poverty'

This year's World AIDS Day commemoration in Zambia had the largest match past i have ever seen. It was well attended and various government ministries as well as civil society organizations participated.

For some reason or other, i have rarely paid attention to certain world commemorations but this particular one caught my utmost attention. The participants matc

On October 17th not only did I stand up for neglected women in developing countries but I also spoke out against the poor education, poor healthcare, insecure social structure and discriminatory laws on gender basis, pathetic working conditions, longer working hours, lower wages all causing massive injustice, hunger and poverty.

I am a youth leader in Northern Bangladesh.  Here 40% of young people are living below the poverty line because they cannot get any work.  To make it worse, the flooding was really bad and gave us the feeling that we had lost so much of the gains we had made in recent years.  This is something I am determined we will not take sitting down.

Last week the whole Philippines shut down. Everyone was in the cemetery. While no one was looking, a little girl who had lost hope hanged herself.

November 1 through November 2 is Day of the Dead in the Philippines. During this time, it's tradition to go to the cemeteries and pay homage to your dead relatives. Families pitch tents or set picnic tab

Twenty-four hours later, the numbers are out. Twenty-four hours after scores of Stand Up and Speak Out events were held across the globe to mark World Poverty Day, which saw multitudes of people stand up on streets, paved and unpaved, posh hotel ballrooms, sports coliseums and town squares, schools and offices, marketplaces and hill tops, the final numbers were revealed. Over 38.7 million peopl
